Fantasy Oscar Pics

Well last night brought what I guess is not very many surprises bases on all the high scores on the Fantasy Oscar Picks!  There was a possible total of 120 points, and we had two people with the highest score with 90!  I wish we didn't have a tie, but we did so there was a random draw for the winner, and the Blu-Ray goes to Eleanor!  Who I will be contacting directly for which movie she chooses!  Congrats to Geraldine who also got 90 points!  I hope everyone had a good time with the picks and is already keeping their eyes out for 2011 best movies and actors. (Nicholas Cage in Drive Angry) Come back next year where the contest will be bigger with more prizes!  Thanks everyone for entering, and let me know throughout the year if you see any movies that are going to be on 2011's list!

1st Annual Fantasy Oscar Picks Contest! http://the-reviewer.net/2011/02/21/1st-annual-fantasy-oscar-picks-contest/ http://the-reviewer.net/2011/02/21/1st-annual-fantasy-oscar-picks-contest/#comments Mon, 21 Feb 2011 17:53:32 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2011/02/21/1st-annual-fantasy-oscar-picks-contest/ Fantasy Oscar Pics

Well I hope you caught up on all your animated shorts, because the 1st Annual Fantasy Oscar Picks at the-reviewer.net starts now!  The rules are simple, from the list below, reply in comments with your pick for the winner in each category.  When the winners are announced if you are correct you will get points based on the number of nominees in that category, if you get best picture correct, you get 10 points, best animated movie, 3 points.  Whoever has the most points at the end is the winner, in the event of a tie, I will do random draws for the winner.  The winner will get their choice of any blu-ray or DVD from any movie that was nominated below.  In the event of a movie not being released yet, you can wait, or get the amazon gift card equivalent value.  However more so than the Blu-ray prize is the year long bragging rights you will get amongst all your friends that you beat.  I really want to see some competition and communication out there, trash talking about other people's picks, why yours are better.  I am hoping you enter, and then tell all your friends about it, not only can you complete against everyone on the-reviewer.net but just in your group of friends!  Share this on your facebook, retweet this post, do whatever you can to make as many people enter as possible.

More rules:

Please register with your e-mail address when you make your entry I will not be able to contact you directly after if you do not put in an e-mail address. I do not spam or even sent out a newsletter.

Only one entry per person.

Entries will only be accepted until Sunday Feb 27th 2011 at 1PM Central.  At that time any comments posted after will not count.

You can enter in as many or as few categories as you wish, but you get no penalty for wrong answers so no reason not to enter in all categories.

I think that is it, good luck to everyone.

Win Name That Movie! A Painless Vocabulary Builder Brian Leaf’s newest book! http://the-reviewer.net/2010/12/13/win-name-that-movie-a-painless-vocabulary-builder-brian-leafs-newest-book/ http://the-reviewer.net/2010/12/13/win-name-that-movie-a-painless-vocabulary-builder-brian-leafs-newest-book/#comments Mon, 13 Dec 2010 21:50:06 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2010/12/13/win-name-that-movie-a-painless-vocabulary-builder-brian-leafs-newest-book/ Name That Movie!

As I have murdered most of the English language at The-reviewer.net, Brian Leaf, word genius and all around wonderful author decided I might need a little help.  So he is sending me a copy of his newest book Name That Movie!  A Painless Vocabulary Builder.  Not only is he sending me a book but he is going to send one to one of you lucky readers!  All you have to do is comment below with your favorite word used in a movie and the line that it was used in.  If you want to get fancy on us, drop the definition of the word as well, but that is not required.  On Friday Dec 17th, I will use Random.org to pick a random number and you will be our winner!  Just so you know my favorite word is superfluous used in Pirates Of The Caribbean.

"Jack Sparrow: It's a fine goal, to be sure. But it seems to me… that a ship like that one, makes this one here seem a bit superfluous, really."

You can find quotes, definitions, and usage all in Brian Leaf's new book, Name That Movie! A Painless Vocabulary Builder,  If you can't wait to see if you have won, or if you just want to buy one anyway, you can check out www.BrianLeaf.com for a sample chapter of his book, and check out all the other books he has written.  I probably would of done a lot better on my SAT's and ACT's if I had this book 15 years ago!  More about Name That Movie! below.

Can students learn the high-level vocabulary words umbrage, imperious, innocuous, categorical, and mawkish from the Harry Potter movies? Did Captain Jack Sparrow use the words macabre, belligerent, and superfluous in Pirates of the Caribbean movies? The answer is “Yes!” So, see if they can Name That Movie! as they test their movie trivia knowledge and learn more than 1,000 SAT, ACT, GED, and GRE vocabulary words taken from Harry Potter, Titanic, Step Brothers, Knocked Up, 300, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Iron Man, Mean Girls, The Notebook, Wedding Crashers, Pride & Prejudice, Miss Congeniality, Shrek, and more!

View a sample chapter and learn more about Name That Movie! at www.BrianLeaf.com.

Cryptozoic censors Warcraft TCG users http://the-reviewer.net/2010/10/03/cryptozoic-censors-warcraft-tcg-users/ http://the-reviewer.net/2010/10/03/cryptozoic-censors-warcraft-tcg-users/#respond Sun, 03 Oct 2010 17:10:20 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2010/10/03/cryptozoic-censors-warcraft-tcg-users/ In a move familiar to the Chinese Government Cryptozoic management has decided to disallow users from being able to talk about the Blizzard CEO and post quotes he has publicly made to help point out the new direction of Cryptozoic after being acquired by Blizzard from Upper Deck.  In a recent posting on the official Cryptozoic forums, a user frustrated by the direction the new TCG owners Cryptozoic are going, a user announced he was leaving the game for good.  Within that post users posted information pointing out the well known quotes about the CEO of Activision Bobby Kotick, quotes about cost savings, making video games no fun, and that his only focus is to shareholders and shareholder value.  All of these posts were promptly deleted.  We can only expect that soon this level of censorship will be included in the official local events the Warcraft TCG will be hosting around the world.  Including events called the Darkmoon Faires and the Continental and World Championships, where they give out prizes to top players.   Will players no longer be able to talk about other card games or video games during public events like Blizzcon and TCG Torunaments soon?  It looks like this is the possible new direction from CEO Bonny Kotick, Blizzard and Cryptozoic Entertainment. An inquiry into this censorship to Blizzard of America was not returned in time for this article.

MacGruber http://the-reviewer.net/2010/03/16/macgruber/ http://the-reviewer.net/2010/03/16/macgruber/#comments Tue, 16 Mar 2010 18:03:41 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2010/03/16/macgruber/ MacGruber Poster

Well I lost my whole MacGruber review.  I can't write another one right now, so MacGruber was the best SNL comedy since Wayne's World, which doesn't mean it was amazing.  It was pretty funny and because it was rated R it saved it.  If it was PG-13 it would have been horrible.  I give it a 3 out of 5 and SNL fans should go check it out when it comes out in May.
