Rated: TV – NR

Running Time: 6 Seasons

Year: 1998-2004

Nudity: Yes lots.

One Sentence: I am officially a woman now.

I am dedicated, dedicated to you all, not just do I watch movies, and help you make the wise choices with your hard earned dollars, that are spreading thinner and thinner every day, but I also do the ultimate for all of you.  I prepare.   I knew about the biggest movie of the summer (according to some) coming out today and I decided if I was going to watch it and give it a proper review I would have to sit down and watch all of Sex And The City.  The journey started 2 months ago.  I have watched 90 episodes in that time.  I have 4 more to go which I will be watching tonight.  I have made my girlfriend extremely happy, and I have made my male friends extremely ashamed.  I have pretty much only had Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte on my mind for that time, and except for the small breaks of movies, I have not watched anything else.  (Sorry LOST and Scrubs, ill get back to you on Monday)

So what do I think.  I think I get it, I think I know why, and it makes sense.  High Fashion, fancy parties, wonderful restaurants, beautiful men, babies, marriage, and 480 dollar shoes, it all makes sense, that it would be something iconic for women.  It is the literal visual translation of romance novels, set in New York City.  It is the needing a man, independent, beautiful, family oreniented powerful woman they all want to be with their wonderful girlfriends, who are all wonderful together.  It's what dreams are made of and makes it almost real.  So real in fact that this weekends movie release has the chance to beat out Indiana Jones in money made for a weekend.

And it should.  This show does not suck in any way.  It is everything that I think every man should hope for in their required watching by their women.  It is smart, funny, sexy, and vulgar.  It deals with lots of issues, not just men and love, it deals with sex, dirty sex, taudry sex, and any other type that can come up.  It deals with understanding of women, but of men too, and it does it all with a slight humor that is not brainless and horrible.  It does not follow the mold of a horrible romantic comedy, and in the end, not everything ends up roses for all parties.  Men should be lining up to see this series over romantic comedies, they will have a better time with it, and will think it far less brain dead than Failure To Launch.  So if they ask you to watch the series men, you should say yes, because if it is not these 4, it could be a whole lot worse.

The Simpsons Movie Review http://the-reviewer.net/2007/07/30/the-simpsons-movie/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/07/30/the-simpsons-movie/#respond Mon, 30 Jul 2007 17:10:40 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/07/30/the-simpsons-movie/ The Simposons Movie Poster

Rated: PG-13

Running Time: 87 Minutes

Year: 2007

Boobs: Zero

One Sentence: A long Simpsons episode with better color.

The Simpsons have been around for a long time.  I remember them on the Tracey Ullman show, when I used to watch that. A lot has changed since then.  Some things haven't changed so much however.  The cast is bigger, but the idea still seems like it might be there.  A look at the life of the American Nuclear Family.  20 Years later The Simpsons Movie was finally released, 10 years after Fox registered simpsonsmovie.com Did they wait too long, or was it a perfect time to strike?

I am not a die hard Simpsons fan.  I have stopped watching the show, unless it happens to be on and I catch it.   However I always liked it, always thought it was funny, and never one to stand up and say the show has gotten weak.  I just don't watch it so much anymore, I do not think the quality has gone down.  So I was excited about the movie but not crazy excited.

We headed to The Alamo Drafthouse to watch the movie, I ordered the Krusty Burger Meal, 2 beef patties, fries and a buzz cola.  Libertie got Lisa's Gazpacho.  We ordered pink sprinkle doughnuts for desert.  We were set for the full Simpson's experience.

The movie seemed to me, exactly what it should have been.  A slightly bigger, prettier, greater conflict, extension of the show.  It was funny, pretty to look at, and big.  It did exactly what I expected.  Nothing that made me upset, nothing that I felt was forced or pushed to be cheesy.  It all worked for me.  I had fun, and would say everyone that likes the Simpsons would like the movie.  It's not required to see in the theater.  It pretty much is a longer, prettier episode of the show.  So I would add it to your rental queue and check it out at home when it comes out.

Bob Barkers Last Day http://the-reviewer.net/2007/06/06/bob-barkers-last-day/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/06/06/bob-barkers-last-day/#respond Wed, 06 Jun 2007 18:09:13 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/06/06/bob-barkers-last-day/ Boob Barker

I have grown up watching The Price Is Right.  I know a lot of people have.  My mom has tired to make it on the show numerous times.  I never got the chance to sit in the studio audience.  I always wanted to go, but never planned to go to LA in enough time to get tickets.  The Price Is Right has no intention of ending as far as anyone has heard.  However will it ever be as good?

Today is the last day Bob Barker will appear as the host of The Price Is Right.  For my whole life, I have watched him and this show.  Every day that I am off of work, or sick, and at home, I take the time to watch all of The Price Is Right.  Every time there is an evening special I make sure to catch it.  I love the show, but I think more so, I love Bob, who at 83 years old, has more style, and looks than most people alive today.  He has been around my whole life, probably the single most influential television personality in my life.  Not that he molded me or shaped me in any way, but he has been around a lot and I do own a couple of Price Is Right tee shirts.

So I would just like to say thank you to Mr. Bob Barker for all the years and cars you have given away, and all the pets balls you have had cut off to help save kitties and doggies.  You are one of a kind and I will miss you!

Where are the reviews? http://the-reviewer.net/2007/05/02/where-are-the-reviews/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/05/02/where-are-the-reviews/#comments Wed, 02 May 2007 19:45:12 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/05/02/where-are-the-reviews/ 2 days now, and I have not written a review.  So what is going on?   Currently I am working with an independent film maker over their review that hopefully will be coming tomorrow, I need some images, and some links.   I also am remodeling a bathroom in my house, so last weekend instead of watching all my 3 hour netflix movies, we did wallpaper.  So I am behind on those.  However I think the biggest issue right now is TV.  The season finale's are coming up and I just took on too much TV this season.

So I will at least go over what I am watching, and what I will be watching in the summer season, and the next fall season.

What The Reviewer is watching on TV now.

  • Heroes –  I love it, it is smart, fun, cool, and has not jumped the shark yet.

  • American Idol – We are not very smart at our house, we watch American Idol at the beginning for the bad people and then we keep watching it.  Now we are stuck watching till the end.
  • LOST – I am sticking with it, and I think I will close out this show.  I am dedicated to it, unless I feel it really gets dumb, I am going to stick with it all the way.
  • Survivor – I have watched it since season 1.  I love this show.  But this is the last season I am watching it.
  • Scrubs – I just discoved this greatness this season, damn this show if funny.
  • My Name Is Earl – Another solid funny, good show, that makes you smile and just feel good.
  • 30 Rock – Anything with Tina Fey will have my full and undivided attention.
  • The Amazing Race – My favorite reality show, I think it is just great.
  • Planet Earth – The most amazing video footage ever caught on tape in my personal opinion.
  • Family Guy – Love me some Family Guy
  • The Daily Show and Colbert – If I miss it though, I won't DVR it or anything.

So as you can see I have a lot of shows going on.  I will be cutting out a lot of these next season.  Next year we are not watching, Heroes, American Idol, Survivor, Planet Earth.  We are keeping LOST, Scrubs, Earl, 30 Rock, and The Amazing Race.  It is a lot less TV.  We hope to not pick up anything new.

For the summer season, we are going to watch the rest of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which will be finished out starting at the end of May, and I am going to check out Pirate Master the new pirate reality show by Mark Burnett.  You know I have to check that out.

So hopefully after the next 3-4 weeks we will get back into a lot more movies and a lot more reviews.

Sanjaya Gone, but was it America’s choice? http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/19/sanjaya-gone-but-was-it-americas-choice/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/19/sanjaya-gone-but-was-it-americas-choice/#respond Thu, 19 Apr 2007 21:10:24 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/19/sanjaya-gone-but-was-it-americas-choice/

Sanjaya Mohawk
Sanjaya was finally removed from American Idol last night.  I say removed instead of voted out, because, how is it that someone that has never been in the bottom 3 before last night.  Get in the bottom 3 and get voted out.  I do agree that his performance from the night before was the worst performance, but it seems like his cult status was carrying him far.  He had bad performances before, yet he was even in the TOP 3 previous nights.   Suddendly there seems to be a backlash against him from the show, and he suddendly gets voted out.  As his popularity is growing?

On April 4th, an Executive producer said "Personally I don't expect him to be there at the end, but you never know.  It's not up to me; it's up to the public.  Americans normally get it right in the end… I'm pretty confident Sanjaya will not be the American Idol this year,"  then 2 nights ago Simon pretty much comes out and says it's time for him to go.  Suddendly he is voted out, or didn't get enough votes.  He has not been in the bottom 3 at all, and now he is out.  This has happened before, I am not saying it is not unheard of.  I am just saying that I think that for this particular situation, it was not America's choice.  It just seems like it would be in the best interest of the producers to cut him off before he gets too popular.

Thank God You’re Here! http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/13/thank-god-youre-here/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/13/thank-god-youre-here/#respond Fri, 13 Apr 2007 20:31:05 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/04/13/thank-god-youre-here/ Thank God You’re Here

Rated: TV-PG

Running Time: 1 Hour

Channel: NBC Monday 9/8Central

One sentence:  Man I hope this show does well.

Right now we have a lot of reality, or semi reality TV going on with stars thrown into the mix.  Thank God You're Here is like taking stars from Dancing with the stars, take away the dancing, and adding in SNL and Who's line is it anyway.  Celebs are dressed into outfits and then put into a set where the first line is Thank God You're Here.  The celebs have no idea what the sketch is about and they have no lines.  They have to improv the scene while other actors have a set script.

I caught the premiere on Monday and I do have to say that it was quite funny.  It has a lot of elements that I love which is semi funny skits, improv and getting celebs out of scripted situations.  It really shows peoples talent and ability to think on their feet and their comedy ability.  With this type of show however you are going to have some duds, and I felt that Jennifer Coolidge was sort of a dud for the first episode, but she did make me laugh a few times.

I think if this show can hang on and gain an audience, it could do really well and really get some amazing actors on the show.  I would love to see that happen and this show become a stop for any good actor to have fun, show off their funny side and really cut loose.  It will let people see a side of them that isn't scripted, and in my opinion would raise the likability factor of anyone that did well on the show.  If you like SNL or impov comedy, I think you should check out Thank God You're Here.

Rated: G

Running Time: 1 Hour

Channel and Time: Discover Channel Sunday 8PM/7Central

Do you hae the discovery channel, or Discovery HD Theater?  If so then I suggest you set your Tivo, DVR, or VCR to record all the rest of the episodes of Planet Earth.  The series recorded over 5 years with new camera technologies allowed for footage that we have never seen before, and it is amazing footage.  Shot in full HD, and sent to you in either HD or the best possible image for regular TV's, it if nothing else is truly beautiful and some of the best looking footage I have ever seen.

However breathtaking images is not the only thing it has.  It has shots and images that no one has ever seen before.  The above image that was released a while ago was the first released image from the Planet Earth footage.  In case you are not sure what that is.  That is a great white shark, launching itself out of the water to eat a sea lion along the coast of an Artic region.  It was shot in full HD at 50 times slower than normal speed because it is so fast.   They showed this scene in slo motion on Planet Earth last week, and it was amazing.  It looked fake.  Something never seen before, and if you thought jaws was scary before, now he flies out of the water to eat things.  The numbers of images like this and things I have never seen or even knew existed were too numerous to count in a single episode.  Fast motion bottom feeding shell fish.   Super close up's of the underside of eating sea stars and other alien looking creatures.  Shots that look close, but were shot from over 1.5kms away to not disturb the animals.

Each show has a theme, the one the shark image is from was called Shallow Seas, and was just perfect.  Narrated by Sigourney Weaver the story and images take you to places people have never seen before.  If you have an HDTV, this is a 100% must watch, and a 90% must buy on DVD.   If you have a regular TV, this is still almost a 100% must watch.  It also most likely could be the reason you finally decide to get an HDTV.

Fire Simon Cowell – American Idol http://the-reviewer.net/2007/01/25/fire-simon-cowell-american-idol/ http://the-reviewer.net/2007/01/25/fire-simon-cowell-american-idol/#respond Thu, 25 Jan 2007 16:56:42 +0000 http://the-reviewer.net/2007/01/25/fire-simon-cowell-american-idol/ American Idol Logo Of course I watch American Idol, it is the most popular show in the world.  I at least watch the first episodes of the show.  See if I like anyone.  See the really bad singers, and see the crazy people.  Like the crying girl that could not sing last night from New York.  CRAZY!  Something happened last night that made me really really like the show a lot more.   There was about 20 minutes when Simon Cowell wasn't there.  He had a hangover and didn't show up.  I am not going to even get into the lack of professionalism that shows right there.

We all know he is a tool, and plays the big tool part to keep his spot on the show.  Clinging to what I guess is a talent.  However when he was not on the show last night, and it was Randy, Paula and Carol (whom all have had singing careers) the quality of judging went way up and the quality of repetitive slander and lower brow TV went WAY DOWN.   It was an amazing breath of fresh air.  The people who were auditioning were not bashed for just trying.  They were not called a "bush baby" or some other of the very few non-repetative statements he makes on the show.  Here is a complete catalog of everything he has said this season so far.

"appalling," "rubbish," "I am not being rude, but *insert rude comment here*," "what was that,"  "I could care less."

I am tired of him, he is most of the time wrong about who is right and wrong for the competition.  He passed on Taylor Hicks last season.  He does not provide anything useful to anyone.   He is not a productive element to the show at all, and is there only for ratings.  While that might have been true before, I think it is time to move on.  I enjoy much more the celebrity judges, Jewel, and Carol.  Those who sing and know singing.  I enjoy the singers working with new people and a focus on the singers.  I especially enjoyed the 20 minutes last night that were without Simon Cowell.  More focus on those good and bad singers, without the 10th grade insults that are not necessary and really are getting tired, and extremely repetitive.   And if you are one that really wants Simon to stay all you have to do is take the quotes above and repeat one of them in British accent and you will have Simon in your living room.

There is a forum post here about asking for a apology for all of the judges behavior.

Also you can write here if you agree and have something to say.  If someone knows an e-mail address please tell me.

Not only do I watch movies, on occasion I watch TV.  Not nearly as much as some, as I am always watching movies, but one show I do watch is [tag]The Amazing Race[/tag].  Which I consider the best reality TV show on TV.   This season they are doing an all star show and below is your list of who is on it.   The list I feel is more of an all star cast than a ratings cast which I think is nice.  All the teams they brought back brought their A game in the season they played.  So for that I am appreciative.  However they brought back Rob and Amber from Survivor and AR.   I think they are done and I can not stand them.  The season starts Feb. 18th on CBS.
