Did I get the wrong movie? Was this the same movie everyone else saw? The one with [tag]Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Cane[/tag] and [tag]Scarlett Johansson[/tag]? The one about magic in the turn of the 20th century. No not the one with Edward Norton, the other turn of the century magic movie. From the guy who made Batman Begins. The Prestige, it was nominated for a couple of Academy Awards. The one I heard was better than The Illusionist. Whoever said that, on crack.
Boring, slow, unimaginative, lacking fantasy or intrigue, this movie was a huge let down. Characters who were not nice, likable, or worthy of my attention. An ending that I think was supposed to be a surprise twist, but was visually apparent with about 45 minutes left in the movie. Nothing cool, or magical, nothing that really made you feel like there was magic created right in front of your eyes. The only magic that happened here, is anyone saying this movie was better than The Illusionist, now that is some magic!
I have very little to say about this movie that is good. I am thinking. I just am not finding much. Scarlett was cute as always, but it wasn't enough to raise it's rating. David Bowie was in it, but he had no goblins around him and was not wearing spandex pants, so he was pretty disappointing as well. If it is in your queue, I think you should take it out. I really do, it just didn't cut it. I think most will be bored with this one, and left dissatisfied.
