Every once in a while there is a movie that comes along that is light, quarky, and not anything that would necessarly win awards or have anything that would blow people minds that I just fall in love with. The most recent movie I can think of that was like this, was The Terminal. It just had the correct mix of humor, imagination, romance, good acting and a cool plot that made me pay attention and enjoy it on every level. Stranger Than Fiction is one of those movies.
A wonderfully shot story that pulls you in right from the very first beginning and makes you want to watch it, see what happens next, and make it all the way to the ending without ever losing focus or thinking anything negative about any of it. This is what happened when I watched Stranger Than Fiction last night. It was everything that I enjoy in a movie. Smart witty humor, that was subtle and funny. Good acting by everyone involved, even Will Farrell. A wonderfully cute romance that seemed natural, real and believable. All of that mixed together with just a very cool original idea, which seems to rare these days. Truly refreshing.
Everyone that was in it did an excellent job, especially [tag]Will Farrell[/tag], who I am sure many people have reservations about. This was a reserved, calm, and well executed part by Farrell, and really was I think perfectly cast. [tag]Maggie Gyllenhaal[/tag] made me fall in love with her all over again. [tag]Emma Thompson[/tag] and [tag]Dustin Hoffman[/tag] were both quite good in their parts as well. Everyone made it all work, even the small parts played by the two guys who are in all those Sonic commercials, and Tony Hale, who played the big Star Trek nerd and friend of Will Farrell's character.
I really liked this movie, and think that almost anyone out there would like it as well. I think you should get past the fact that Will Farrell is in it and give it a change, I was really pleasantly surprised and am most likely going to buy this one on DVD. Add it to the queue for sure.
