I have a general dislike for the recent trend of music star biopic's.  They are all the same, they are all over acted and they are all in my opinion the same damn movie.  So it is with great pleasure that Judd Apatow decided to make fun of it with Walk Hard.  Lately I have been really liking Judd and his movies, and his casts.  He seems to have a finger on the pulse of what I like and want to see, and a lot of America.  A lot of people think this movie looks dumb, I would disagree, with the term dumb, but I would say it is not the most hilarious thing I have seen all year.

Walk Hard follows the rock biopic exactly like all the other movies.  It is practically the exact same movie as all of the others, except for the fact that this movie they are making fun of all the others.  The formula is what is really the star here, it is perfect.  The non-verbal jokes about the life and times and the actual mockery of all those other movies is what is done really well here.  Also the music is actually quite good.  All of the songs seem to be well written and performed really well.  You would think they were real songs, except for the fact they are funny.  Where the movie misses sadly is in the verbal jokes.  They are bordering on campy or dumb at times and while I was laughing I wasn't laughing really hard.  It was cute, and fun, but not something that you and your friends are going to be talking about over and over again.

The cast though was just wonderful.  Judd seems to bring everyone I love into his movies.  First Jenna Fischer looked fantastic, she is quickly becoming my #2 Hollywood comic girl behind Tina Fey.  She was just wow!  Then everyone else in the movie was great.  There were so many cameos and good parts, I would like to list everyone off that is in the movie.  John C. Reilly, Paul Rudd, Jack White, Jack Black, Jason Swartzman, Kristen Wiig, Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, Harold Ramis, Frankie Muniz, Eddie Vedder, Justin Long, Johna Hill and there were probably more that I am missing.  I really find cameos to be great.  The winner was Jack White of the White Stripes playing Elvis.

I think the movie is a renter for sure, it has enough goofyness for most people, and I think people will have quite a few laughs.  So add it to the netflix queue and go see Sweeny Todd or AvP:R over Christmas.
