One Sentence: It's not really for adults.
Drillbit Taylor was not the blockbuster return Owen Wilson was hoping for. Well I think that anyone on the team was hoping for. A horrible 4th place showing in last weekends box office numbers show that no one wanted to have anything to do with this movie. In my theater on opening night there were plenty of open seats, and that was at The Alamo Drafthouse. If you can't sell out a drafthouse show on opening night you know it is not going to do too well.
I think the lack of filled seats was sadly justified. The Judd Apatow train had to come to a stop eventually and I think this movie was it. Written by Seth Rogan I had high hopes for it being good, even though it didn't look to good. Sadly it just did not deliver on the level that I was looking for. I think however your teen kids might like this one a lot.
It was focused completly toward a teen audience and really didn't have a level for adults at all. The comedy was light and never really delivering a lot of good solid laughs. The story was simple, and didn't deliver anything that was unexpected or gave us anything outside of a simple teen comedy formula. It wasn't horrible at all, but I think most adults will be bored with this one, I would skip it. Let your kids go.
