One Sentence: The Mist is evil!
I really liked The Mist. Which is a little odd, because the movie is so horrible. The Mist, directed by Frank Darabont who helped other Stephen King projects, The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, was from a film stand point a horrible movie. The movie has horrible acting, and pathetic dialog. It really was a sort of silly idea as well. The CG is subpar and does not look real. I think if you are going to do photo realistic CG, then make it look real. So with all of these things going against it, how on earth can I say I enjoyed it?
I was scared. The movie is just plain scary. It had people in it, I believed in these people, with their horrible acting and dialog and I was afraid for them. I was scared of what was in The Mist, and I was scared of what was going on inside the place they were stuck in. The movie delivered on what it needed to. This movie was a lot like 1408 where we are given the good scary elements we want with a weak everything else, and the only thing holding it together is the fear, and it does that so well that, at least I, don't care about the other weak parts.
I thought The Mist delivered a great cross section of fear, and I am going to say rent this one if you like horror. It is non-traditional horror, much like most of King's stuff, so not too much blood and gore, but there is some. However renter beware, as I said, the acting, dialog and CG all suck in this movie, if you can look past that however, I think you will have a great time.
