One Sentence: How to bore people and make them want to stop watching your movie.
The idea of Simon Pegg and Kristen Dunst in a dark romantic comedy by itself should be enough for anyone to know that this movie is going to fail on some level. If I had known it would come out to be a romantic comedy, I probably would have never rented it, but those marketing jerks never made anyone aware that this is what the movie really was, making it look far better in previews then it ever could have been. So I sat down at home in my theater to let this movie taint my new seating, (pics to come).
I guess I could be nice and say really there is nothing horribly bad about this movie from a film class point of view, on how to assemble a movie and make a coherent story, but that is not saying much of anything nice. I think the movie is banking on the loser charm of Simon Pegg, which everyone came to love in Shaun of the Dead, but they push him from charming to total dick and it just makes for a un-funny, boring attempt at dark comedy, that really makes you not care what is about to happen next, nor that romance is a believable outcome for any of these wretched characters.
On top of these people, who are vile, you have a 110 minute movie to deal with. I can deal with bad movies as long as they are not long bad movies, and that is what is going on here. It's almost 2 hours of boring converstaions, cheating people, annoying hollywood types, and a whole lot of nothing good. I am saying stay away from this one, there is nothing in it that you need to see, and Megan Fox or Jeff Bridges are not able to save you from the boring, so just skip it, take it out of your queue, and never look back.
