One Sentence: Old school Sam Rami horror.

Back before Spider-Man there was a man, a director, who made cheap movies, movies that used a lot of zoom, a lot of old scary women, and a lot of make-up.  He used conventional methods of film making, and stayed away from CG.  He had a huge cult following and launched the career of Bruce Campbell, that man was Sam Rami.  The director of the Evil Dead trilogy, Darkman, The Quick and the Dead and yes the Spider-Man trilogy.  A lot has been said about Sam since he took over Spider-Man, he lost his old school roots, he will never go back or could go back.  Drag Me To Hell is his response to those critics, and that response is, I still have it and I never lost it.

Drag Me To Hell is the horror movie you have been waiting for if you loved the Peter Jackson and Sam Rami horror school of the 80's.  A blend of make-up, fear, story, camp, humor and just plain gross stuff makes Drag Me To Hell the nostalgic trip down good movie lane that at least I have been missing out on.  I love the new world of movies and extreme CG, but sometimes, a puppet and some makeup go a long long way, and Rami uses them in a way that I think a lot of people have been missing.  It doesn't hurt that not only does he hit on these old school buttons, but the movie is good too.  It is funny, creepy, made me jump a lot, had things that were just wrong, and was damn scary in some parts.

Now this movie is a little flawed, but I think it was intended.  Everything about this movie seemed like it was made for anyone that wants that type of horror back.  The acting was a little weak, the story was a little far fetched, and it just worked so well.  I just had a fun time being scared by Drag Me To Hell, that I can't reccomend it enough.  It delivered a lot, and a lot more than I expected and I would reccomend renting it for sure, there is no way I can say go see it over UP, but I did consider it for one second.  So add this to your queue and if you want to go see two movies this weekend, go see UP, and then go see Drag Me To Hell.
