This is the year of 3-D. Every movie is being looked at if it can go 3-D. Let's make more money on it by putting it in 3-D. So what is Robin Hood doing here. An over 2 hour long story based epic that deals with things in a factual manner. The movie felt like a action packed history lesson, that included all the little nuances of a well told story. I don't know if it belongs in the summer movie set, but I think I like that it is here.
As I get along in years, I am starting to enjoy the more detailed story lines. I think Robin Hood does this very well. A solid story tied in with very well shot action made me enjoy Robin Hood very much. It felt so simple and real, something that we haven't had at all in 2010, and something now that I have noticed I missed seeing. I wrote that the movie felt long, because I wasn't ready for this type of movie. I don't think anyone will be, they are expecting a disposable action movie, and they get something bigger and better.
Robin Hood is not the best movie of the year, and it does feel slow in some parts, but in a year where everything seems over processed, and might have 1 too many dimensions for viewing Robin Hood is a nice change of pace. I think it is totally rentable, and if you are in it for the long haul, 2 hours and 20 minutes isn't too bad to be in the theater for this Ridley Scott directed movie. So I would say check it out this weekend if you were wanting to.
