Let Me In is the American remake of Fantastic Fest 2008 darling Let The Right One In (movie review). I had a hard time with the original as it was in Swedish and I really had a hard time watching the movie and reading at the same time. Especially with the methodical slow subtle shooting that took place in Let The Right On In. So the American remake Let Me In was perfect for me, as it kept the feel and pacing of the original but allowed me to focus on a lot more not having to read in almost every scene. It made me understand the buzz about the original that seems to have carried over into the American remake.
Let Me In is a horror movie in the very classic sense of the word. Subjects like love, loss, rejection and the feelings of a monster are what make Let Me In such a great movie. We don't have a masked emotionless killer slashing naked teens for no reason. Don't get me wrong I love naked teen murder as much as the next guy, but sometimes I wouldn't mind a little more substance in my horror and Let Me In is it. This is a skillfully crafted movie that goes into so much more than what most horror movies would dare jump into these days and it is amazing.
This movie is slow, and every shot is carefully planned, there is some blood and gore in it, but it is not excessive and it is not in the vein of any modern horror style, so if you are looking for a slasher you can skip it. However if you are looking for a chilling, horror story during the month of October to get you ready for Halloween, the I would highly recommend Let Me In.
