I am sure everyone is aware that The Muppets are coming back thanks to the barrage of Muppet all over the TV right now.  Adidas custom Kermit shoes, Muppets on SNL, car commercials, and of course The Muppets movie.  Disney has finally found their window to reboot The Muppets.  The reboot involves a marketing barrage but otherwise keeping The Muppets classic.  Cameos, puns, friendship and working together.  You really can’t complain about their message and it is nice to see Disney not try to 2011 up The Muppets.

I think Disney made the right choice with The Muppets which makes it hard to say that the movie is a little slow and not that funny.  It just didn’t feel like The Muppets when it came to comedy.  It didn’t fell like anything when it came to comedy, it felt stale and dry and very weak.  Especially when the 10 minute Toy Story short that opened before the movie packed so much comedy into such a tiny space.  So it is a bit confusing.  You want The Muppets to make it in 2011, but if they stay classic, they feel a little outdated, it is hard to be happy with it one way or the other.

The movie is not bad.  It just isn’t great either.  It is just ok, and with such fanfare and expectation, I think people will be a little bit disappointed overall.  I would say this is still a good choice for Thanksgiving with the family, especially if you are a Muppets fan.  You will have a fun time, but maybe not laugh as much as you thought you would.
