I don’t watch Glee. However I have seen a couple of episodes and the super sweetness of it was not for me. So I was a little bit worried about Pitch Perfect, and it attempting to channel Glee into movie form to cash in. It does do that sort of, but it takes it to the edge a little bit and upgrades it to a more adult college story which helped it a lot. Then it added Rebel Wilson, and Elizabeth Banks with a new comer Hana Mae Lee which made this movie just good enough.
It is still about singing A Capella and it is still about discovery and working as a team and all of those things that you would expect for this to be like. So it is sort of works. It has a very easy formula to follow and if it didn’t have these random moments of comedy to save it, it would of been awful. I thought Elizabeth Banks was the star of this movie. She has a very tiny part, but it is comedy gold. She is easily becoming one of my favorite women of comedy.
So Pitch Perfect is probably better than you think it is going to be, but it is not great enough for you to spend full price on this. I would go see it with some friends on Sunday afternoon. If you are a girl and you are going with other girls. Guys, you do not need to go see this movie for any reason, but if you happen to catch it, you might end up liking it.
