Gangster Squad Movie Review

Gangster Squad Movie Review Poster

One Sentence: A confusing movie not doing anything really well except beating people up.

Rated: R

Release Date: 11-Jan-2013

Nudity: None

After the run of Oscar nominee movies and family fun during December, you really get some crap in January and February at the movies.  Gangster Squad throws you for a loop when you see the previews.  It looks well shot, has some stars in it, but it’s coming out mid January.  Maybe they just didn’t have anywhere else to put it.  Or maybe it’s just a bunch of dudes shooting faceless thugs for 2 hours.

This movie felt like nothing more than a side scrolling 80’s video game based in late 40’s L.A.  No badges, no names, get to the boss and punch him in the face.  Emma Stone was hardly in it, the relationship between her and Gosling wasn’t really a thing.  It was shoot guys, punch guys, blow up guys movie.  Which is fine, they did it with style in suits and hats, but it felt like it could of been this cool sexy 40’s LA movie and it ended up being just a macho sausage fest with graphic face punching.  There wasn’t much to it at all, and I can see now why it is coming out in the bad movie season.  It just wasn’t very good.

I think that there are people out there that will like this movie.  It is well shot enough, and isn’t poorly acted or anything like that.  There just isn’t much to it, and I am not going to recommend it to anyone.  So most of you should skip it, those that like little plot, punching, shooting and fighting, should line up to see it as soon as possible.

2 of 5 for Gangster Squad
