Identity Thief Movie Review

Identity Thief Movie Review Poster.

One Sentence: More like an action buddy comedy, than a straight comedy.

Rated: R

Release Date: 8-Feb-2013

Nudity: None

I was very confused about why this movie was coming out in the dead of February.  The time where movies go to die.  It didn’t look bad.  It has 2 very funny people in it.  It looks like they spent a good amount of money on it.  The press junket was vast.  So they wanted you to go see the movie.  What about it was pushing it out to this weekend.  It isn’t that the movie isn’t good.  It is just not the movie that everyone thinks it is going to be.

This is not the comedy that you have been marketed.  It is a comedy and action movie with guns, shootings, car crashes, cops, and high speed chases.  It has comedy in it as well, but it doesn’t look like the movie in the commercials, and that is why it is pushed out to this weekend.  They don’t know how to sell it.  It is a confusing dark movie in some parts, that I wish was a little less downer and a little bit funnier.  It has a lot going on and it doesn’t know what it wants to be.  Action movie, drug movie, crime movie, buddy/road trip comedy movie, and since it has so much going on it doesn’t do anything very well.  None of it is bad.  I was entertained but I didn’t love it.  It was just ok, and I probably will forget about it in a couple of weeks.  This almost feels like Due Date, but it is funnier and a little bit better put together.

I am going to say that you should not spend money on this one.  There just is not enough there.  I love Jason Bateman and I love Melissa McCarthy, but this movie just doesn’t deliver the goods.  It was ok, but not good enough to spend money on.
