If this was a single movie with a much shorter story arc I would probably say that you do not need to see this movie. The acting is ok, the action is ok, and love interest is ok. The whole thing is ok. Except for Shailene Woodley’s acting which I thought was sub standard for most of the movie. If this was the end, of this movie run, I would say forget it, you could get by never seeing this movie.
However there is a much larger dystopian society story arc that is going on during this movie. This story line, the story about the Divergent, is what is going to make me say you might want to sit through this ok movie, because there is more story coming and it might be pretty interesting. If you look at Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone the acting was pretty awful. I am not saying this is as good of a story as HP, but I think it has enough there that I would be willing to sit through the other things that might not be so great in Divergent.
I really liked the story, and I liked it enough that it made me looked past all the other ok parts. It made me think that I wanted to know the rest of the story, and it made me look up and see that there are three books out in this series and that I do want to see the next movie. So if you are into trilogies, then you might want to check out Divergent.
