This cast had me dying to see this movie from the minute I saw the trailer. I knew what the movie was, what it would be and almost what would happen in the movie. I didn’t care though. Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Rose Byrne and Jane Fonda was enough for me. Being rated R on top of that just made me all the more excited.
I loved this predictable, perfectly wonderful adult movie about a family being stuck together after a funeral. An experience I had recently. I would say that this movie plays out pretty much how you would expect it to. Even in the first few minutes I felt like I had the pacing down and knew what was going to happen in the next scene, and that is why this movie is so great. It is a refection of truth in a perfect way. It is funny, uncomfortable, complicated and perfect. The stellar acting and way that this cast played together made it feel even more real. They seemed like a real family, and it rung so true to me. Rose Byrne I think was my favorite, but I also loved Tina Fey trying something with more weight. Everyone in the cast did an excellent job.
This Is Where I Leave You is not the best at anything, it doesn’t have an amazing message, it doesn’t do anything exciting or overblown. It is simple, small, and great, and that is what it intended to be. If it looked like something you would like then it will be something you will love. If it doesn’t look like your type of movie, the trailer is enough to tell you if you should go see it or not.
