One Sentence: I was wrong about the Wicked Witch Of The West.
Release Date: 08-Mar-2013
For some reason I was really excited about Disney’s Oz, The Great And Powerful. I was excited about the secrecy of the Wicked Witch. I was excited about how it looked, and I was mostly excited about a journey back to Oz, and I have no idea why. The original Wizard Of Oz is not a movie I would put on my favorites list, so I wasn’t sure of the excitement. I think it is that I have seen it so many times and it is engraned into our culture so much that I just want to know more about it. See more, and experience more, except for 1985’s Return To Oz. Which should be forgotten by everyone.
In the new tradition of live action quality movies that Disney has been putting out lately, like Enchanted, and Alice In Wonderland. Oz, The Great And Powerful is another great step toward a new focus for Disney. This movie has less comedy than Enchanted, and Less Action than Alice, but it is a great family movie, and does great care not to step on or destroy the 1939 classic. It is a simple good vs evil, with some humor and some action, a happy ending and all of those Disney notes you would expect. It doesn’t handle the fall of a certain character very well and it seems rushed and not fleshed out. With the importance of this character in the story, I felt like it could of been handled with a bit more depth. Most of the movie feels rushed, but with so much going on it is hard to get a lot of depth out of the large cast of characters.
Oz, The Great And Powerful is a beautiful, fun family movie that is fine for almost any age kid. I think everyone will have fun watching it and I think it will do very well with everyone. I think you all can go see it this weekend during the day and have a great time.
