Memoirs Of A Geisha

Rated: PG-13 Running Time: 145 Year: 2005 Boobs: Zero One Sentence: Geisha are not prostitutes even if they do sell their virginity. I am not going to get into the whole thing about Chinese girls, playing Japanese Geisha. I am fine with the choices of the people they cast regardless of their nationality. I have very little to say about this movie really. I liked it. It was pretty much what I expected. Maybe a little bit longer story than I thought it was going to touch on, and the period was a little bit more modern than I expected, but overall it was all there. So what do I have to say about this one? I think it is worth the rental if you thought you would like to see it and were looking for a review to back that up. It is worth the rental I think. Just not a mind blowing event. Everything was very pretty or shot well. The usage of color and the presentation of the period and the sets were very nice. Costuming was excellent, and the feeling of the movie portrayed what was expected of it. I guess the thing that leaves me with not much to say is the story itself. A meek and sad story that is slowish, that leaves you thinking there was not much to it except a long drawn out love story. And it is not a bad story at all. I guess I was just expecting more to it. The plot seemed quite weak compared to the cast, sets, and the presentation of that plot. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me. I also have to mention that sometimes it was hard to understand some of the dialog. All Chinese or Japanese people, speaking in English, left some accents a bit thick and at times hard to understand. In this dialog focused film, it kinda left me a bit frustrated struggling to understand them. I felt it might be even better in Japanese and then with subtitles. It doesn't ruin the movie but there might be some parts that you are going to miss, you will still get the idea however. So add it to the queue, if you were wanting to check it out but didn't know what people thought. You will enjoy it enough to justify the rental.
