Poseidon

Rated: PG-13 Running Time: 99 Minutes Year: 2006 Boobs: Zero One Sentence: Rogue waves are real I looked them up. I have never seen the Poseidon Adventure, it is in the netflix queue, but it came out before I was born and I have never gotten around to it. It pretty much launched the disaster movie. Many to follow after the huge event that was the Poseidon Adventure. Earthquake, The Towering Inferno and The Core! So I have nothing to compare the remake to. Not that I expect them to be comparable anyway. So the main reason I wanted to watch this movie was because in the preview there is a huge wave. Looks to be like 100 feet or so. It is called a rogue wave. I wanted an explanation of this rogue wave, how it occurred, and why they happen. I did not get any of this. I only got info that they are rare, and occur randomly and are not predictable. I however did do some reading on the net this morning, and that seems to be pretty much it. They are about 100 feet at their top heights, are random and not really predictable. They are expected to be the cause of many ship sinkings but a cruise liner has never been sunk. So I guess the idea is not completely out of the question. The movie itself is as you expect. It is a big money action underwater boat movie, that has very little character development, and a lot of big budget CG and water thrown at it. Overall those sequences were solidly put together. They were fun, and scary, and looked very good. This is about all we can expect from a movie like this. We are not going to learn about the characters, and love them. So all we have left is the boat and action. I wouldn't say it was lame, or terribly cheesy, I think it was worth the ticket price, and we both said when we got out of the movie, that it was put together well and worth the watch. So add it to the queue, or go see it in the theater, for god's sake it cost them 200 million to make and they only pulled back 20 million this weekend. They need help! But with the Di Vinci Code coming out next weekend, I doubt you will get around to it. //pics.livejournal.com/the_reviews/pic/00003ayd” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

  • i agree not alot of character development but you cant expect this from a disaster movie, would you stand around and talk if this was happening on your ship because i wouldnt. the cgi effects are really good and just as an action/rescue movie this film works.
