One Sentence: An unexpected 4th of July movie.
I am used to Will Smith and 4th of July. I think we all are and we have come to expect big guns, big explosions, big aliens, and big money. What we are not used to is something that might have a touch of humanity in it, a story about people, and their feelings. There are still some big money things in this movie, but it is also unexpectily toned town. That might not be the best thing when you spent 150 million dollars, but I think it might be a good thing for the audience.
Hancock has those things you are looking for I think. It has some very cool scenes, that justify the 4th of July release. It has very funny moments and I was laughing quite a lot. Will Smith is great, as I rarely have anything to complain about with him. Everyone else in the movie was great. The movie is a lot of fun and leaving out a few moments that might be a little too adult, almost everyone can go see this movie and will be entertained. There were plenty of kids at our viewing.
What is weird here is there is a story that goes beyond the normal layer of unliked superhero that we have all see in the previews. There is more here that you expect and less at the same time. The movie probably doesn't end up how you would expect it to, but you also get a lot of other things you do not expect as well, and I was excited to see them. The movie seemed original and new, something we have not seen before, even with the recycled superhero layer. It made the movie quite enjoyable even outside of the weekend blockbuster, and I think everyone will be happy with what they saw.
