I just had a conversation with friends that there had not been a lot of good movies this year.  Overall the feel was Hollywood and crap, with very little that we would feel would get a best picture nomination.  The Descendants is one of the first movies this year I feel strongly about could do very well in a lot of categories at the Oscars.

A heavy movie with a light heart, The Descendants deals with family, marriage, death, infidelity and Hawaii.  It takes on a lot of subject matter in a way that somehow lessens the blow.  It is a beautiful story about pain and loss, but there are times where you are laughing out loud and nodding with understanding.  Clooney and his daughter in the movie played by Shailene Woodley deliver amazing performances that I think could put both of them in their respective categories at the Oscars.  It crafts a small group of amazing actors, with the back drop of Hawaii to make one of the best movies of the year.

I don’t think this movie is for this weekend though.  It is a lot to handle.  While it is good.  The stress of this weekend with family and turkeys and everything that is going on.  The Descendants might be a little too much to take on.  So I think this might be a movie for next weekend, or maybe to rent in the future.  It is very good and I recommend it to everyone.  I just think you might want to take your time getting to it.
