Despicable Me was such a wonderful surprise when it was released in 2010. I just fell in love with it and a lot of others did too, which of course was going to lead to a sequel. There was a magic and sweetness to the movie. I was worried about capturing that magic again. Were they going to be able to keep up the surprises, fun, and quality of the first movie? I think they did.
The addition of Kristen Wiig really stuck out as a good choice. Adding her character and specific voice work really made the new character Lucy welcome and a great addition. Plus adding a lot more of Margo, Agnes and Edith really made for a good balance between all the characters in the movie. It has a lot of jokes, some very funny moments, and the story is great. It has plenty of minion fun, and cool fun gadgets and a wonderful new villain. It all made for another excellent movie that I think is as good or better than the original movie.
I think you can easily take everyone to go see this on 4th of July and everyone will love it. I don’t know about the 3-D however. Usually I would say for an animated movie 3-D is still the way to go, but for the most part it isn’t necessary. They do a few 3-D tricks during the credits scene but that is about it, and I don’t think that is worth the extra bucks that a family will cost for 3-D. So far this is my favorite movie of the year and I think you should go see it today!
